DSWD accredits 24 child dev’t centers in Agusan Sur town

Accreditations have been issued to 24 Child Development Centers (CDCs) in Agusan del Sur’s town of Talacogon, the Department of Social Welfare and Development in the Caraga Region (DSWD-13) said Wednesday.

In a statement, DSWD-13 said the accredited CDCs will help the agency ensure the strengthening of child development and protection programs in Talacogon, as mandated through Republic Act (RA) 6972, or the Barangay-Level Total Development and Protection of Children Act.

“The accreditation of the 24 CDCs was completed through the series of evaluation and assessments conducted by the agency from June 20 to 24 in the area,” the DSWD-13 statement read.

Of the total authorized CDCs, 14 were for renewal and the other 10 were new applications, the agency said.

The accreditation process, it added, aims to provide an enhanced set of standards among the CDCs and their respective child development workers for the efficient delivery of early childhood care and development programs in the area.

“As mandated by RA 6972, every barangay should establish a daycare center, instituting therein a total development and protection of children program,” the statement added.

The agency has called on CDCs in other local government units in the province to undergo the accreditation process to legalize their operations.
