The Department of Science and Technology-Central Luzon (DOST3) has introduced e-learning technologies to geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDA) in Gabaldon, Nueva Ecija
DOST Regional Director Julius Caesar Sicat said on Tuesday some 204 units of e-tablet and another 204 units of two-way radio were turned over on Monday to teachers for distribution to students in the GIDA community and indigenous peoples (IP) group members of Camatchile Elementary School, Malinao, Elementary School, and Gawad Kalinga Elementary School in the said town.
Sicat said the e-learning technologies with two-way radio developed by the company Frontlearners can be used in discussing the lessons while the topic can be flashed simultaneously on e-tablets.
Through this technology, he said teaching and learning can be delivered even if the students are in the comfort of their homes.
The project is a component of the Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) program of the DOST which had been funded by Sen. Joel Villanueva since 2018.
CEST aims to introduce technology innovations as a foundation for further development in remote areas.
This includes interventions related to but not limited to health and nutrition, education, disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation, and environmental protection and conservation.
The initiative also entails the provision and transfer of technology-based livelihood projects to the identified communities specifically in GIDA, the marginalized sector including farmers, fisher folks, indigenous people, and women's groups.
