After years of waiting, 22 employees of an electric cooperative finally received the best news ever in their entire career as linemen-they have been granted permanent employment status with a plantilla item.
"This is another reason for us at DOLE, specifically in Bicol, to celebrate the upholding of workers' rights and security of tenure. This is a very rare opportunity, considering that from being contractual workers for several years, they were eventually appointed as permanent employee," DOLE Bicol OIC Regional Director Atty. Ma. Karina Perida-Trayvilla said.
The 22 linemen from Casureco IV Electric Cooperative, Inc. in Tigaon, Camarines Sur expressed their gratitude to Casureco IV Management for granting their request, and DOLE Bicol for helping facilitate their transition from contractual to permanent employment.
"We have not reported this before since we are waiting for at least one month to see the effect of the transition," OIC Regional Director Perida-Trayvilla added.
From being contractual workers receiving only P265 daily wage, the linemen, after being granted permanent status, now receive a salary that ranges from P11,607.00 to P13,141.00 a month, depending on experience and years of stay in the company.
Aside from the remarkable pay increase, which is about 200 percent more than their former salaries, the linemen's appointment will also be retro-active starting 4 January 2016.
Additionally, their contractual years of services will be credited once they retire. The management will grant them their salary differentials and all allowances from January to the present, in tranches every payday.
"The more or less 200 percent increase in their salary is certainly good news," OIC RD Perida-Trayvilla said.
The linemen sought the help of DOLE Bicol regarding their employment status through the Single Entry Approach (SENA Program) in April 2016. After several conferences, the parties agreed to grant permanent employment status to the linemen.
"Both parties were very cooperative during the consultations. Finally, we can now say that the labor and management sectors here in Bicol are finally imbibing the SENA Program," the OIC RD said.
During the appointment signing, Marissa C. Imperial, ISD manager of Casureco IV, reminded the linemen to continuously improve their performance, especially now that they were granted permanent status.
The linemen expressed their "unending gratitude" for the trust given them by the management and DOLE, and promised to remain committed and dedicated to their work.
"Dodoblehin po namin ang aming sipag at tiyaga. Maraming maraming salamat po sa Casureco IV at sa DOLE" one of the linemen assured the DOLE V Single Entry Approach Desk Officer.
