For the first time in DOLE Bicol, a simultaneous press conference in all provinces in the region was held to highlight the launching of the DOLE Regional Office No. 5 Hotline.
The event was conducted in DOLE RO V Activity Center in Albay; Casa Dominga in Balogo, Sorsogon City; Regent Hotel in Naga City, Camarines Sur; Villa Milla Resort in Naga City; Fernando's Restaurant in Virac, Catanduanes; and Unica Hija Resto Bar in Nursery, Masbate City.
"We had invited all active tri-media outlets in the six provinces for the simultaneous press conference. At exactly 2:15 pm on August 15, all DOLE Offices in the Bicol Region promoted to the tri-media our DOLE Bicol hotline (0918) 309-6665," DOLE Bicol OIC-Regional DirectorAtty. Ma. Karina Perida-Trayvilla said.
The simultaneous press conference re-launched the DOLE Bicol Hotline, which is now being extended to accommodate labor and employment queries and serve as a regional dispatch call center for workers' concerns.
The hotline was originally launched last 14 July 2016 during the regional press conference at La Piaza Convention Center but it was only focused in combating "Bogus Na Inspektor" campaign.
"It was a regional office initiative then after we received numerous reports that certain individuals are using the name of DOLE Bicol in soliciting money from both the workers and management. Now the hotline has evolved into a far better system that serves our fellow Bicolanos," DOLE Bicol OIC-RD Atty. Perida-Trayvilla said.
After the simultaneous press conference, DOLE Bicol expected that the text messages and calls received by the Hotline will triple. Days after its first launching in July, some crucial messages were already received by the office.
Labor and Employment Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III issued Administrative Order No. 409, Series of 2016 directing all heads of DOLE's attached agencies, regional offices, and Philippine Overseas Labor Offices (POLOs) to set-up their respective 24/7 DOLE Hotline Call Services. This is in line with the directive of President Rodrigo Duterte to ensure timely delivery of government services.
Through the hotline, DOLE will provide immediate response to all workers in crisis and emergency situations, and to provide them relief from unsafe, unhealthy, and unjust conditions of work. It will also cater to victims of illegal recruitment and trafficking-in-persons; separated workers claiming unpaid wages and benefits; workers engaged in temporary or atypical work arrangements not in accordance with existing labor laws and regulations; and local and overseas workers claiming social and health insurance benefits within the jurisdiction of DOLE agencies.
Workers who are inquiring about applicable wages and wage related benefits, such as minimum wages, overtime pay, holiday pay, and similar concerns; and workers with cases filed in DOLE offices, attached agencies, and POLOs claiming unpaid wages and benefits, will also be assisted by the 24/7 DOLE hotline services.
