MANILA-- The Department of Health (DOH) joined the 119th Philippine Independence Day celebration by offering free medical and dental check-ups at the Luneta Park in Manila.
DOH Secretary Dr. Paulyn Ubial said the agency deployed personnel as part of the annual commemoration wherein different government agencies providing services set up booths that can be accessed by anyone who will be needing medical assistance.
"We deployed over 50 persons in Luneta for the Health Response and check-up services there," said Ubial in an interview with the Philippine News Agency.
The Health Chief added that code white was also raised for all hospitals in the country to ensure their readiness in responding to any untoward incidents and public health emergencies.
As part of the preparation, ambulance and even firetrucks were on stand-by as other government agencies and personnel deploy teams there to offer corresponding services and make those services more familiar to people.
The theme for this year celebration is "Kalayaan 2017: Pagbabagong Sama-Samang Balikatin.
Aside from celebration in Manila, Independence Day is also being commemorated in other historical areas, such as Emilio Aguinaldo Shrine in Kawit, Cavite; Barasoain Church in Malolos, Bulacan, and Pinaglabanan Memorial Shrine in San Juan City.
