MANILA-- Health Secretary Dr. Paulyn Ubial said Thursday she respects the Commission on Appointments' (CA) decision to bypass her appointment as secretary of the Department of Health (DOH).
"That's life. Wala naman tayong (We have no) control over that and we accept the decision of the Commission on Appointments," she said.
Ubial, together with Environment Secretary Gina Lopez, Social Welfare Secretary Judy Taguiwalo, and Agrarian Reform Secretary Rafael Mariano failed to get the nod of the CA on Wednesday as Congress went on a six-week break.
"I have not yet been scheduled (to face the CA). I leave it up to the wisdom and discretion of the members of the CA when it is the right time for me (to meet them)," she said.
Ubial disclosed that she has been preparing her answers to possible queries on her policies in the hope of satisfying the commission members, including Senate Majority Leader and CA member Senator Vicente Sotto III, who has warned that he would block her confirmation if she pushes through with her plan to distribute condoms in schools.
She called on the commission to look beyond their differences in opinion and instead consider her track record at the DOH.
Ubial said that in her 28 years of service at the department, she has pushed for anti-corruption measures and transparency in all the offices she has handled prior to her appointment as DOH chief by President Rodrigo Duterte.
