Davao Sur coop to venture in banana business

MAGSAYSAY, Davao del Sur The Magsaysay Farmers Multi-Purpose Cooperative (MFMC) is set to start another brand of business the Cardava Banana Marketing and Enterprise.

This came after the final validation conducted Thursday afternoon at the site by personnel of the Department of Agriculture under the I-REAP component of the Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP).

MFMC was among the accredited cooperatives, associations and organizations in the municipality that submitted its intent to avail of the I-REAP project and was the only group selected after qualifying with the requirements set by the government agency.

Magsaysay has been earlier identified as the major producer of cardava banana in the entire province, making the commodity top the enterprise prioritization process.

DA-PRDP coordinated with the local government to conduct a selection process among proponent groups for the implementation of the I-REAP project.

If this materializes, MFMC will be the buying station of all cardava banana products in major production areas like Barangay Tacul, Maibo, Malawanit, Bacungan, Upper Bala, Balnate and Malongon.

DA-PRDP will initially allocate a P1-million startup capital for the coop to operate. (Anthony S. Allada/PNA)
