MANILAThe Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on Wednesday reported that the initial cost of damage to infrastructure of Typhoon Ompong that hit Northern Luzon two weeks ago, is close to PHP7 billion.
Partial cost of damage to infrastructure of Typhoon Ompong has reached PHP6.948 billion," the DPWH said in a statement.
It added that the biggest damage was recorded on flood control structures which amounted to PHP5.278 billion.
Combined from PHP1.539 Billion damage to roads, PHP52 million to bridges, and PHP78.30 million to public buildings, the DPWH said.
Meanwhile, it also reported that clearing operation are still being conducted in eight road in Luzon, which are still closed to traffic.
As of 12 noon, Wednesday, September 26, 2018, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced that eight (8) road sections in the Cordillera Administrative Region and Region III are still closed to traffic due to landslide, collapsed road, damaged slope protection, road slip and flooding.
Road sections that are still impassable are the following:
1) Kennon Road
2) Baguio �Bontoc Road
K062+680-K0362+780, Busa Section
K0371+400, Tiging Section, Sabangan
3) Baguio-Bua-Itogon Road
K0259+600, Sitio Kiangan Village, Brgy. Ucab, Itogon
K0260+350, Sitio Kiangan Village, Brgy. Ucab, Itogon, Benguet
K0261+050, Sitio Goldfield, Brgy. Poblacion, Itogon
K0261+460, Sitio Goldfield, Brgy. Poblacion, Itogon, Benguet
K0261+400-K0261+450, Sitio Goldfield, Brgy. Poblacion, Itogon, Benguet
4) Acop-Kapangan-Kibungan-Bakun Road
K0345+600 - K0345+670 Bagtangan, Gambang, Bakun, Benguet
Abra-Ilocos Norte Road, K0451+150 - K0451+250 and K0451+345-K0451+415 Nagaparan section, Danglas
Apayao - Ilocos Norte, K0614+476-K0638+880 (Intermittent Section)
Banaue-Hungduan-Benguet Boundary Road, K0407+750 - K0407+900
Baliwag - Candaba - Sta. Ana Road, K0068+(-348) Bomba Bridge
Over the past two weeks, DPWH Regional and District Engineering Offices were able to clear a total of 77 roads that were closed due to Ompong and effects of Habagat. (PR)
