Country’s budding scribes to capture 2017 Palaro highlights

ANTIQUE-- Consistent with the theme of youth engagement and empowerment, the celebrated actions and thrill of the 2017 Palarong Pambansa will be documented and published through the eyes of young writers from different regions in the country a first in the history of the biggest youth sporting event customarily covered by professional media.

About 100 scribes and their mentors from the 15 regions are being trained in the three-day 2017 Palarong Pambasa Sports Journalism Workshop and Hands-On Coverage at the Division Multipurpose Hall, School Division Office of Antique in San Jose de Buenavista, the provincial capital.

The activity is made possible through the partnership between Rappler and the Department of Education's Public Affairs Service-Communications Division (PAS-CD), headed by Public Affairs Service Assistant Secretary G.H. S. Ambat.

Division of Antique Schools Division Superintendent Reynaldo G. Gico welcomed and encouraged the participants to become responsible journalists.

Rappler resource persons include David Bryan Lozada, Community Manager, for writing; Raisa Serafica, Content and Social Media Producer, for Rappler X; Francis Lopez, Multimedia Specialist, for videography; and Zultan Jazul, Photo Editor, for photography.

What started as a one-day workshop in Marikina developed into a three-day writeshop and skills/capability building where regional groups will do the actual field work and cover certain events in Palarong Pambansa.

The Hands-On Coverage will involve the participants of the regional delegations working together as one team to promote and sustain the advocacy of the Palarong Pambansa. All delegations will report to the Central Palarong Pambansa Desk daily. Campus journalists will be sent to cover assignments in groups and as individuals.

In addition, the writeshop will provide a venue for an enriching learning experience for students interested in sports journalism to give them a better edge in their chosen careers, and to promote responsible sports journalism, and fair and ethical use of social media. Special recognition shall be given to exceptional articles, writers, photographers, videographers.
