A police corporal escaped death when unidentified men riding-in-tandem shot him past 7 p.m. Saturday (June 27) in Del Carmen, this city.
Maj. Rixell Torayno, chief of Iligan City Police Station 1, said Cpl. Nick Pangarongan was driving his vehicle when unidentified armed men shot him upon reaching Zone 4 of Barangay Del Carmen.
Torayno said Pangarongan, who is presently assigned at the Regional Drug Enforcement Unit (RDEU) 10 in Cagayan de Oro City, was on his way home to Erlinda Ville, Del Carmen when the incident happened.
“He was shot twice but luckily he was not hit. He fired back but the suspects managed to escape very quickly,” Torayno said in an interview.
He was alone in his car when the shooting incident happened.
As member of the RDEU that leads drug operations in Northern Mindanao, Torayno said, Pangarongan is looking into the possibility that the attempt of his life is work-related.
“His area of operation is huge and it is possible that one of the involved in his previous operations is getting back at him. He is now tracing who among his arrested personalities have a strong motive of killing him. He is thankful though that he was not hit,” Torayno said. (PNA)
