Celebrations and showdowns at the 2016 Aliwan Fiesta

Manila Broadcasting Company (MBC) is organizing the Aliwan Fiesta celebrations on April 14 to 16. Now on its 14th year, the annual cultural extravaganza begins with the opening of a Shoppers Bazaar along Sotto Street at the CCP (Cultural Center of the Philippines) Complex. The evening’s celebration centers on the Aliwan Music Jam, featuring top concert artists led by Calla Lily, Banda ni Kleggy, Luke Mejares, Acel, and DJ Tom Taus along with MBC disc jockeys Papa Jack of 90.7 Love Radio and Tanya Chinita of 101.1 YesFM.
On April 15, festival muses from around the country compete in the Search for Reyna ng Aliwan, which will be hosted by 2014 Miss Earth/2013 Aliwan Festival Queen Jamie Herrell together with DZRH. Television’s Dennis Antenor, Jr., Paolo Valenciano and Alex Medina will render special musical numbers.
The street dance championship kicks off at the Quirino Grandstand on April 16 at 4 p.m. and will traverse Roxas Boulevard to the Aliw Theater grounds at the CCP Complex where the culminating showdown will be held. Taking part in the grand national showdown among regional festival champions are Tribu Katbalaugan for the Manaragat Festival of Samar, the Niyugyugan Festival of Quezon, Laguna’s Anilag Festival, Baguio City’s Panagbenga, Maguindanao’s Meguyaya and Sagayan festivals, Boling-Boling of Catanauan, and Iloilo Dinagyang’s Tribu Salognon and Tribu Panayanon. Floats from different municipalities will also join the grand parade.  
Awarding ceremonies hosted by Nicole Hyala and Chris Tsuper of 90.7 Love Radio will follow immediately after. Guest entertainers include Aegis, popular rapper Abra, Kris Lawrence, Ronnie Liang, and Bet ng Bayan’s Hannah Precillas and Kai Atienza.
The 2016 Aliwan Fiesta is presented by MBC, Star City, and the Cultural Center of the Philippines in cooperation with the cities of Manila and Pasay, with support from Globe Telecom, Tanduay, Alaska, Coca Cola, Pride Detergent, Unique Toothpaste, Shield Bath Soap, Columbia Candies, Cherry Mobile, Fukuda,  AICS, GES Led Lights, Bayview Park Hotel, and Robinsons Ermita.
