MANILA The Supreme Court (SC) has named two new members to the high court's committee on the revision of the Rules of Court.
In a memorandum dated January 28 and released to media Friday, Chief Justice and SC 1st Division Chairperson Lucas Bersamin designated Court Appeals (CA) Associate Justice Maria Filomena D. Singh and Manila Regional Trial Court (RTC) Judge Jose Lorenzo R. dela Rosa to the committee.
SC 2nd Division Chairperson, Senior Associate Justice Antonio T. Carpio and SC 3rd Division Chairperson, Associate Justice Diosdado M. Peralta also signed the designation.
Last December, Bersamin underscored the need for a "massive" overhaul of court rules, which governs procedural rules in court proceedings.
Bersamin has said it is up to the High Court to modify or revise the Rules of Court, which last underwent major revision in 1997.
It was originally drafted before World War II and then revised in 1964 and went through sporadic revisions.
The SC is eyeing revisions that would make judicial processes adapt to technology and ensure the speedy disposition of cases and access to justice for the poor. (PNA)
