Health authorities in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) reported 39 new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) recoveries amid 18 new cases in the region as of Tuesday evening.
Dr. Amirel Usman, the region’s Ministry of Health officer-in-charge, said the new recoveries are from Maguindanao with 24; Lanao del Sur, 14; and Basilan, one.
“The recovery figures are promising considering that our health workers are doing their best to save people’s lives from the infection,” he said.
Meanwhile, 18 new cases were also reported in the BARMM on the same day with Lanao del Sur recording 10 infections, followed by Maguindanao, six; Basilan, one; and Sulu, one.
Since March this year, the region has a total of 1,124 Covid-19 cases and 862 recoveries, translating to a 77 percent recovery rate.
Active cases as of Tuesday evening stood at 216, with Lanao del Sur recording 150 infections, followed by Tawi-Tawi, 31; Maguindanao, 28; Basilan, six; and Tawi-Tawi, one.
The total number of deaths from the virus stood at 46, including five Covid-19 fatalities on Tuesday.
Also on Tuesday, officials of the regional government have turned over a newly-built Covid-19 treatment and monitoring facility at Nuro, Upi in Maguindanao.
The construction of the facility, which began on June 5, formed part of the BARMM’s effort to control Covid-19 infections in the region.
The facility, situated at the Datu Blah T. Sinsuat District Hospital in Upi can cater to 100 asymptomatic and mild Covid-19 patients, Mohd Asnin Pendatun, spokesperson of the BARMM Inter-Agency Task Force (BIATF) on Covid-19, said.
“Even after the Covid-19 pandemic, the facility can be used by the district hospital to extend its bed capacity for patients,” Pendatun said.
Provincial health officials also opened a Covid-19 isolation facility in Pandag town earlier this week.
