MANILA, Philippines – Rookie Jarvey Gayoso struck in the 80th minute to lift Ateneo to a 1-0 win over defending champion Far Eastern University (FEU) and boost its Final 4 bid in the UAAP Season 78 men's football tournament Sunday at the McKinley Hill Stadium.

Gayoso pounced on an error by FEU keeper Ray Joyel, which was enough for the Blue Eagles to gain the full three points.

Ateneo is now at fourth place in the league table with 21 points, slipping past University of Santo Tomas (UST), which battled to a 1-1 draw against Adamson University last Saturday.

It was the second straight match wherein FEU failed to score a goal, following last Thursday's goalless draw against National University.

The Tamaraws, who won six straight matches before struggling in their past two games, still have 24 points.

De La Salle University, meanwhile, blanked University of the East, 2-0, to seize solo third with 23 points.

The Growling Tigers fell to 19 points, denting their Final 4 hopes.

In women's football, FEU and UST battled to a goalless draw to share points.

The Lady Tamaraws remained in the third spot with eight points, one clear of the fourth-running Tigresses.
