Anifah expresses concern over abduction of Malaysian sailors

PETALING JAYA: Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman met his Filipino counterpart Jose Rene Almendras to express Malaysia’s serious concern on the recent kidnapping of four Malaysians.

During the meeting that took place in Manila on Thursday, Anifah expressed the importance to intensify cooperation towards securing the release of the four Malaysians, including intelligence sharing and patrolling.

Almendras gave his assurance that his Government was undertaking the necessary measures to ensure their safe release.

The four Malaysians are Wong Teck Kang, 31, Wong Hung Sing, 34, Wong Teck Chii, 29, and Johnny Lau Jung Hien, 21.

They were among nine crew members of a tugboat which was heading back to Malaysia from the Philippines on April 1 when the abduction took place.

The four were kidnapped by armed men in the waters of Pulau Ligitan, Semporna, Sabah.
