Albay villagers receive P2.4-M in wages for community work

LEGAZPI CITY - The Department of Labor and Employment in Bicol (DOLE-5) has released PHP2.4 million in wages to 455 worker-beneficiaries of the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced (TUPAD) program in Albay province this week, an official said Thursday. DOLE-Bicol spokesperson Johana Vi Gasga said the beneficiaries were from the towns of Camalig and Malinao and Legazpi City. "The distribution of wages is ongoing and it is led by the DOLE-Albay provincial field office thru their respective municipalities," said Gasga in a message sent to the Philippine News Agency. She said the beneficiaries received PHP3,650 each for 10 days of community service rendered in their respective villages. "The payment of wages is through a money remittance provider. They were also provided with personal protective equipment, GSIS insurance, and other supplies," Gasga said. TUPAD is a community-based package of assistance that provides emergency employment to displaced workers, underemployed and seasonal workers, for a minimum period of 10 days, but not to exceed a maximum of 30 days, depending on the nature of work to be performed
