Mayor Kirk Asis of Bayugan City in Agusan del Sur province refuted Monday a television report that the recovered getaway cars used in the killing of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo were recovered in his city.
Asis said a television reporter on March 4 indicated falsely in his report that the three vehicles used by the killers of Degamo were recovered in Bayugan City.
'The reporter of ABS-CBN made the readers believe that it would only take less than 16 hours and 32 minutes for these recovered vehicles to travel from Negros Oriental to Bayugan City, Agusan del Sur via Butuan-Cagayan del Oro-Iligan road,' Asis said in a statement.
Degamo was killed by armed attackers on March 4 in Pamplona, Negros Oriental province. `
Police reports indicated that the getaway cars were recovered by authorities in Bayawan City in Negros Oriental and not in Bayugan City.
'Let us all be reminded that social media is now our main source of information for us to stay informed about politics and current events,' Asis said.
With the television station being a trusted news source, Asis said the reporter should have verified the report with the local government.
