(8 a.m. Update) ‘Auring’ threatens Surigao del Sur, 21 areas under Signal No. 1

Tropical depression 'Auring' maintained its strength as it heads towards Surigao del Sur, state weather bureau PAGASA said Sunday.

As of 8 a.m., the center of 'Auring' was spotted 100 km east southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 70 kph.

'Auring' is moving west northwest at 7 kph.

Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal (TCWS) No. 1 is hoisted over Bohol, Siquijor, Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, Southern Leyte, Cebu, Agusan del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Surigao del Norte including Siargao Island, Dinagat Province, Misamis Oriental, Misamis Occidental, Bukidnon, Camiguin, Davao del Norte, Northern Davao Oriental, Northern Zamboanga del Norte, Lanao del Norte, Northern Lanao del Sur and Compostela Valley.

'Auring' is expected to make landfall over Surigao del Sur between Sunday evening and Monday morning. PAGASA said estimated rainfall amount is from moderate to heavy in areas within 300 km diameter of the tropical depression.

Residents of areas under TCWS No. 1 and over the rest of Davao Region and of Northern Mindanao are alerted against possible flash floods and landslides.

'Auring' is estimated to be in the vicinity of San Miguel, Surigao del Sur on Monday, at 170 km south southeast of Cuyo, Palawan on Tuesday and at 85 km west of Puerto Princesa City, Palawan on Wednesday. It is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Thursday.
