MANILA: Nueva Ecija drew first blood in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) National Finals after trouncing Zamboanga in Game 1 of the best-of-five series, 81-75, at the Nueva Ecija Coliseum in Palayan on Friday night.   Nueva Ecija seized control of the game within the final three minutes of the game as the team went on a 9-2 run to take a 76-67 lead with 46.9 seconds left.   Zamboanga tried to sneak back into the game with its superb perimeter shooting down the stretch, but Hesed Gabo nailed clutch free throws in the end to seal the deal.

President grants Angping’s request for ‘personal time’

MANILA: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has approved the request of Presidential Management Staff (PMS) Secretary Maria Zenaida “Naida” Angping for “personal” time off, Malacañang announced on Friday.   This was confirmed by Undersecretary Cheloy Garafil, officer in charge of the Office of the Press Secretary (OPS), in a statement sent to Palace reporters.   “Presidential Management Staff (PMS) Secretary Naida Angping has asked to take some personal time for herself and her family, and the President agreed,” Garafil said.   She, however, did not elaborate on Angping’s current status.   Angping made the request after her husband, former lawmaker

164 Reds surrender in Mimaropa since January

MANILA: A total of 164 members of the Communist Party of the Philippines – New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) have surrendered to different police units in Mimaropa from January to December 1 this year, the regional police said Friday.   “We are committed to sustaining the success of this campaign towards a communist terrorist group-free Mimaropa,” Police Regional Office (PRO) 4-B (Mimaropa) chief, Brig. 14K cops deployed around Metro Manila for Yuletide season

MANILA: Around 14,000 police officers have been deployed in Metro Manila to ensure a peaceful and orderly celebration of the Yuletide season, an official of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said Friday.   In a statement, NCRPO spokesperson, Lt. Col.
