Paeng destroys P67.2-M Zambo City crops, fisheries

Severe Tropical Storm Paeng has damaged a total of P67.2 million worth of crops, including fishery products and resources here, the City Agriculturist Office reported Wednesday.   City Agriculturist Carmencita Sanchez said the damage when Paeng hit the city on Oct. 28 and 29 covered 238.60 hectares of farms planted with agricultural crops and fishery products across the six agricultural districts.   “A total of 1,317 fisher folks and 476 farmers for a total of 1,793, were affected,” Sanchez said in a report to Mayor John Dalipe.   Of the damage, Sanchez said the hardest hit was the fishery sector

Production of cost-efficient feeds for fish culture pushed

E. Visayas records higher inflation rate in Oct. at 7.4%

Eastern Visayas recorded a 7.4 percent inflation rate in October 2022, after two consecutive months of deceleration, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reported on Wednesday.   The October rate is higher than the 6.9 percent recorded in September and 7.2 percent in August.   The uptrend in the regional rate in October 2022 was primarily due to the higher prices for housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels.   “It registered a double-digit inflation rate of 11.1 percent in October from 8.6 percent in the previous month. Fitch Solutions eyes growth in PH household spending in 2023

Household spending in the Philippines is expected to get a boost from the projected rise in real income in 2023, a report by Fitch Solutions Country Risk & Industry Research said.   In a report dated Nov. 8, a copy of which was sent to journalists on Wednesday, Fitch Solutions said it reduced its 2022 growth forecast for real household spending in the Philippines from 7.6 percent year-on-year to 5.5 percent.   However, it projects that household incomes will outperform inflation next year.   “(This) will ensure real income growth and greater potential for consumer spending,” it added.   The

Skirmishes between government troops and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) members backed by lawless elements are ongoing sporadically in Basilan province’s hinterlands, a top military official said Wednesday.   Brig. Gen.
