Central Luzon posts record-high 8.4% inflation rate in October

The inflation rate in Central Luzon has accelerated to 8.4 percent in October from 7.1 percent in September 2022, based on the latest report of the Philippine Statistics Authority-Regional Statistical Services Office (PSA-RSSO) III.   This is the highest inflation recorded in the region since December 2008.   Central Luzon ranked fourth among the regions — with Davao Region recording the highest inflation at 9.8 percent, followed by Zamboanga Peninsula at 9.0 percent, and Mimorapa at 8.5 percent.   On the other hand, the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) and Soccskargen recorded the lowest inflation at 6.5 percent.

Shooting incidents in Negros Oriental not alarming: cop chief

The series of shooting incidents in Negros Oriental during the past few days is not alarming, the director of the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office (NOPPO) said Tuesday.   Col. New tax measures seen to generate P47B annually

La Union intersection project to protect motorists, pedestrians

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has installed safety barriers, added pedestrian lanes, lighting, and landscape to the intersection along Manila North Road in Barangay Pennsylvania-Parian road and Barangay Sevilla national highway here to ensure safety of motorists and pedestrians.   In a statement on Tuesday, DPWH Ilocos Region information officer Esperanza Tinaza said the development of the intersection was allocated PHP18.6 million under the 2022 General Appropriations Act.   “This includes landscaping, asphalt paving to provide a smoother ride for motorists traveling through, and installation of stainless safety barriers to resist direct impacts from vehicles,” she said.

Private respondent in 1990 Navy drug procurement raps cleared

The Sandiganbayan has cleared a private individual who had been among those convicted in a graft case against Navy officials found responsible for the anomalous procurement in 1990 of medical and dental supplies.   In the 3-page resolution dated Nov. 3 and written by Associate Justice Amparo Cabotaje-Tang, it granted the motion for reconsideration filed by private individual Ermina L.
