Schneider Electric ranks #1 for third consecutive year in the Gartner® Supply Chain Top 25: Europe Top 15

Rueil-Malmaison (France), August 3 2022Schneider Electric, the global leader in energy management and automation, has ranked first in the Gartner Supply Chain Top 25: Europe Top 15, retaining its position for three consecutive years.

This latest recognition follows last month’s announcement that the company had ranked second in the Gartner global ranking, and showcases the best practices of Europe’s Top 15 company supply chains for 2022 in conjunction with The Gartner Supply Chain Global Top 25 for 2022.

“We think this latest recognition from Gartner and our peers is particularly meaningful given the highly volatile and disruptive environment supply chains have faced over the last year,” said Stéphane Poittevin, Senior Vice President Global Supply Chain Europe, Schneider Electric “Our commitment to our customers and the planet compels us to continue to invest in our supply chain for greater resilience and sustainability.”

Sustainability is at the core of Schneider’s purpose and mission, and the first pillar in its supply chain strategy, STRIVE (Sustainable, Trusted, Resilient, Intelligent, Velocity and Efficiency). Now in its second year, the company has accelerated its transformation toward becoming the most agile, innovative, planet and customer-centric supply chain.

Earlier this year, Schneider was recognized by Gartner in the Power of the Profession™ Supply Chain Awards. for its Adaptive Machine Learning Driver ‘Self-Healing’ Supply Chain in the Process or Technology Innovation of the Year category. The Schneider platform optimizes performance-related parameters such as safety stock quantity, minimum order quantities, and lead times on a real-time basis through machine learning. This has resulted in savings of more than €100 million.

Earlier this year Schneider’s factory in Le Vaudreuil, France, was recognized as a Sustainability Lighthouse by the World Economic Forum – the second for Schneider Electric and only of only six worldwide.

About Gartner Top 25 Supply Chain

The Supply Chain Top 25 ranking comprises two main components: business performance and opinion. Business performance in the form of public financial and ESG (environmental, social, governance) data provides a view into how companies have performed in the past, while the opinion component offers an eye to future potential and reflects leadership in the supply chain community. These two components are combined into a total composite score.

Gartner analysts derive a list of companies from a combination of the Fortune Global 500 and the Forbes Global 2000. In an effort to maintain the list of companies evaluated at a manageable level, a general annual revenue threshold of $12 billion has been applied.

International leading scientists issue critical guide for using microbiomes to combat the global issue of biodiversity loss

THUWAL, Saudi Arabia, Aug. 03, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — A group of leading experts have issued a critical framework for using microbiomes to protect wildlife in an ethical and efficient way.

Beneficial Microbes for Marine Organisms (BMMO), an international network of collaborators with expertise in crosscutting areas of probiotic research, have published a paper in Nature Microbiology, Harnessing the microbiome to prevent global biodiversity loss, that provides a science-based framework to accelerate the responsible research and development of microbiome solutions.

Dr. Raquel Peixoto, founder and co-chair of BMMO, and associate professor of marine science at KAUST, said, “Key ecosystems, which host many forms of life, are at the brink of ecological collapse, driving enormous biodiversity losses and mass extinctions, and disrupting ecosystems central to supporting livelihoods.”

Contributing authors include professors Gabriele Berg of The Graz University of Technology; Christian Voolstra of the University of Konstanz; Ute Hentschel of GEOMAR; Rodrigo Costa of the University of Lisbon; Carlos Duarte of KAUST; and ethicist Jeantine Lunsh of Harvard, among other distinguished academics.

A guide to accelerate the use of macrobiotics to restore coral

The scientists examine the use of probiotics to “reboot” healthy microbiomes and protect key, and sensitive, symbiotic relationships between hosts and their associated microbes. Probiotics are now conventionally applied in agroecosystems, showing that successful applications in open environments are possible with controlled risks.

The team propose a science-based framework, outlining a path from laboratory bench to pilot and large-scale applications of microbiomes, to save threatened ecosystems.

“We as a network of leading scientists are concerned that the technological development of an urgently-needed tool may be delayed by unclear and undefined risk assessment steps,” said KAUST Distinguished Professor of Marine Science Carlos Duarte, who serves as executive director of the Coral Research & Development Accelerator Platform (CORDAP).

“In addition, no ethical discussions are available to provide guidelines and rules to accelerate the transition from devising to applying environmental probiotics in a practical and safe way. Therefore, we are highlighting the path from concept to real-world solutions, addressing ethical considerations, as well as risks against benefits.”

The paper serves to address this gap. The framework also considers the risk of inaction, and can be adapted to other urgent scientific developments.

“Our framework provides a pragmatic regulatory wildlife-adapted tool to guide scientists and stakeholders through the fight against biodiversity loss,” Peixoto said.   “It takes into consideration potential side effects of its application, while also considering the high toll of inaction.”

Oil-Dri Receives Brazilian Patent for Mineral-Based Feed Additive Formulation Used in Poultry and Swine Antibiotic-Free Production

CHICAGO, Aug. 02, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Oil-Dri® Corporation of America (NYSE: ODC), a leading global manufacturer of sorbent minerals, announces today that the Brazilian Patent Office has issued Patent No. 11 2015 007549 5, titled “Clay Product and Uses Thereof,” with Oil-Dri as the inventor. The patent protects the novel, mineral-based formulation used in Amlan International’s existing natural feed additives, Varium® for poultry and NeoPrime® for swine, that provide swine and poultry producers with natural solutions to optimize intestinal health and add value to their operations. Varium and NeoPrime are sold and marketed in select international markets by Amlan, the animal health business of Oil-Dri.

Brazil is one of the top three global broiler producers and one of the largest exporters of poultry products with 13.8 million tons of chicken meat produced in 2020. Changing regulations from the countries that import Brazilian poultry meat have created a market pull for antibiotic-free (ABF) poultry production in Brazil. The challenge for ABF producers has been how to maintain bird health and productivity without using antibiotics. That’s where Varium comes in. Varium reduces the level of pathogenic challenge in the intestinal lumen, strengthens the intestinal barrier, and naturally encourages animal health.

“The global trend for antibiotic use is decreasing and many regions are now requiring countries that export follow the same rules as if the animals were produced in the countries receiving the meat,” said Heath Wessels, VP of Sales, The Americas for Amlan International. “Varium and NeoPrime offer producers a natural solution to support animal efficiency and productivity in an antibiotic-free operation. Poultry integrators in Brazil have experienced success incorporating Varium into their rations and the product is gaining traction in the market.”

Brazil is also among the top five global producers of pork accounting for 50% of Latin America’s total pork meat production. For pork producers looking to reduce their use of antibiotics, NeoPrime supports swine intestinal health and energizes enterocytes for better nutrient absorption — all of which can help counteract the fallback effects of piglet weaning on intestinal health and growth.

“NeoPrime helps weanling pigs as they start to consume diets more regularly and potentially start to have intestinal health challenges,” said Fernando Blini, Amlan Country Sales Manager, Brazil.

Senator hails law on permanent validity of PSA certificates

Senator Win Gatchalian hailed a new law that establishes the permanent validity of certificates of live birth, death, and marriage.

Republic Act 11909 or the Permanent Validity of the Certificates of Live Birth, Death, and Marriage Act, which Gatchalian co-authored, covers live birth, death, and marriage certificates issued by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), its predecessor the National Statistics Office (NSO), and local civil registries. It also applies to certificates registered and issued by the Philippine Foreign Service Posts, and transmitted to the PSA.

“Dapat padaliin natin para sa ating mga kababayan ang pagkuha ng mga importanteng dokumento. Kaya naman isinulong nating magkaroon ng permanent validity ang ating mga birth, death, at marriage certificates upang hindi na mahirapan ang publiko sa pagkuha ng mga dokumentong ito (We must expedite the process of obtaining important documents for our countrymen. This is why we pushed having permanent validity for our birth, death, at marriage certificates so the public would not have difficulty getting these documents),” Gatchalian said in a statement on Wednesday.

Regardless of the date of issuance, these certificates shall be recognized and accepted in all government or private transactions or services requiring their submission as proof of identity and legal status. These, however, should remain intact and readable, and should still visibly contain the authenticity and security features.

The permanent validity of marriage certificates is applicable only when the marriage has not been judicially decreed annulled or void as provided for under the Family Code of the Philippines or any subsequent amendatory law on marriage.

The law further provides that national government agencies and instrumentalities, government-owned and -controlled corporations, local government units, private companies, private and public educational institutions, and other non-government entities are prohibited from requiring the submission of another or newer certificates when a valid certificate can already be presented.

Gatchalian said this law would spare Filipinos from the additional expense and inconvenience of getting new copies of these documents.

To verify the authenticity of these certificates and reports of birth, death, or marriage, the law also mandates the PSA to coordinate with the Department of Information and Communications Technology to develop a civil registry database and establish a virtual viewing facility in local civil registries and in the Philippine Foreign Service

Slain ex-Lamitan City mayor laid to rest

Former Mayor Rose Furigay of Lamitan City, Basilan, was laid to rest Wednesday amid hundreds of grieving Lamiteños.

Furigay’s internment came a day after her long-time aide, Victor Capistrano, was laid to rest, in Lamitan City, Basilan.

Furigay and Capistrano as well as Jeneven Bandiala, a security guard, were killed during the Ateneo de Manila University shooting in Quezon City on July 24.

Police arrested the suspect, Dr. Chao Tiao Yumol, following a brief chase minutes after the incident.

The Lamitan gymnasium was filled with grieving family members, friends, and supporters during the public viewing from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m., followed by necrological services.

A funeral mass was held at 10 a.m. at the Saint Peter the Apostle Parish Church, and Furigay was then laid to rest at the family-owned property in Barangay Limook.

Furigay’s husband, Mayor Roderick, urged government authorities to leave no stone unturned in the investigation, more so that the father of Yumol was also killed in Lamitan City.

Rolando Yumol, 69, a retired policeman and father of the suspect, was shot and killed on July 29 outside his house on Rizal Street, Barangay Maganda.

“I call on the government to bring justice not just for Mayor Rose, not just for Victor, not just for the Ateneo guard, but to the late Rolando Yumol as well as to Lamitan as a whole,” the mayor said in a statement posted on the Facebook account of the city.

The local official said violence has no place in the city, even as he called on Lamiteños “to not let emotions get the better of us. Let our humanity prevail.”
