3 soldiers injured in Lanao Sur NGCP tower blast feted

Three soldiers of the 55th Infantry Battalion (55IB) have been awarded the Wounded Personnel Medal for their heroism as they secured National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) while conducting inspection in Buadiposo-Buntong, Lanao del Sur last week. Brig. Gen. Jose Maria Cuerpo II, 103rd Infantry Brigade commander, bestowed Sunday the medals to 2Lt. Bryan Paul Calilung, Pfc. Aries Rico, and Pvt. Benjack de Guzman at the Amai Pakpak Medical Center (APMC) in Marawi City. Cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are expected over Caraga and Davao regions due to a low pressure area (LPA), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Sunday. Magnitude 5.6 earthquake jolts Occidental Mindoro

A magnitude 5.6 earthquake struck Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro early Sunday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported. In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the tremor occurred at 5:59 a.m. with its epicenter traced at 10 kilometers northwest of Sablayan. It was tectonic which indicated a movement in the Earth’s crust and had a depth of 10 km. As active cases of the coronavirus disease-2019 (Covid-19) decrease, the vaccination rate will go up as there will be less need for health care workers in treatment facilities. The National Task Force (NTF) Against Covid-19 noted decrease by as much as 12,000 in the average daily vaccination rate last month due to a surge in cases. In a bid to encourage tourists to visit tourism destinations in Cebu province, government agencies and the private sector held a two-day intensified vaccination program in three municipalities in Bantayan Island. A total of 3,494 individuals were inoculated in Bantayan, Santa Fe, and Madridejos towns on Friday and Saturday. Veteran journalist Recto Mercene writes 30

Veteran photojournalist and reporter Recto Mercene passed away on October 2, his family announced. He was 77. Mercene had been admitted to the Asian Hospital in Alabang since September 7 after suffering a fall. According to an obituary posted by his publication, BusinessMirror, he was being prepared for release from confinement so he can get palliative care at home after doctors detected cancer spreading in his bone marrow.
