MAGUINDANAO, Philippines Two hitchhikers were killed while five others were hurt Wednesday when two speeding vehicles collided head-on in Barira, Maguindanao.
Inspector Haron Macabanding, chief of the Barira municipal police, identified the fatalities as Esmael Toroganan and Talib Arimao, who died from multiple injuries sustained in the accident.
The victims were among 10 passengers of a van that collided with a Toyota Hilux pick-up truck of Maguindanao provincial board member Mobari Dagalangit.
Dagalangit’s driver, Manan Manabilang, was slightly hurt.
Makabanding said five injured van passengers, Saydig Gabino, Akmad Rashid, Edriz Karim, Estat Karim and Angga Alo, were rushed to a hospital for medication.
Makabanding said Dagalangit and his father, Barira Vice-Mayor Amir Dagalangit, have assured to extended financial assistance to the families of Toroganan and Arimao.
