Zamboanga City lifts Sunday lockdown policy

ZAMBOANGA CITY – The city government announced that it will gradually lift the Sunday lockdown policy effective June 27.

Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar said Friday the religious activities would be allowed but limited to 30 percent venue capacity. A quarantine pass will not be a requirement for Sunday worshippers.

Groceries and supermarkets will be opened to serve the front-liners while restaurants and food servers are also allowed to operate but only for food deliveries and take out.

All residents are advised to stay home, except for Sunday worshippers, health, Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM) and security front-liners, as well as those involved in an emergency situation, the mayor said.

The Sunday lockdown policy had been in effect since May 8 after this city was placed under modified enhanced community quarantine amid the spike of the cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Like the Sunday lockdown policy, the imposition on the use of quarantine pass to go out to buy essentials had been imposed since May 8.

Holders of quarantine pass “A” are allowed to go out on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday while “B” on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

The requirement for workers in government and private firms are employment identification card.

Meanwhile, Salazar has ordered the police and military authorities manning quarantine checkpoints to confiscate all unauthorized barangay-issued certifications and disallow non-essential activities.

Salazar said the barangays may only issue certifications for the purpose of residents’ application for an e-quarantine pass, which is submitted online, as well as for business reasons.

She noted that some residents are observed to be exploiting the use of barangay certificates defeating the purpose of the community quarantine
