Western Visayas records over 1K Covid-19 recoveries

The total recoveries from the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) patients rose to 61,548 as 1,101 more new recoveries were recorded on Tuesday by the Department of Health in Western Visayas (DOH WV).

The active cases dropped to 10, 857 even with 505 new confirmed cases as the result of the tests done by 17 of the 18 laboratories in the region.

Based on the DOH WV Center for Health Development report, the highest number of recoveries came from Negros Occidental with 436 followed by Iloilo province with 294, and Aklan with 167.

Others who survived were from Capiz with 37; Guimaras, three; Bacolod City, 65; Antique 40; and Iloilo City with 59.

The region though has 16 new deaths bringing the total mortalities to 1,712.

Meanwhile, of the new cases, 495 were local cases, eight were authorized persons outside of residence, and two locally stranded individuals.

The province of Aklan and Iloilo City recorded the highest number of new confirmed cases with 150 and 102, respectively.

The DOH situational report as of July 11 said Iloilo City was classified as high-risk while Aklan was at moderate risk.

In a statement, Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas said the city could either retain its current modified enhanced community quarantine status (MECQ) or be elevated to a stricter classification.

Based on the report of the City Health Office (CHO), he said cases are still going up.

“We can’t be complacent yet. I have been saying time and again that Covid-19 is still here, and we really have to follow the health protocols and get vaccinated. We are doing everything we can to improve our situation,” he said.

As of Tuesday, the city has 1,491 active cases, 10, 223 recoveries, and 335 deaths.
