The anti-communist group League of Parents of the Philippines (LPP) marched through the gateway of University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman campus on Monday as it called on officials and teachers to be more vigilant with the new batch of students for the coming school year.
The group, together with the Liga Independencia Pilipinas, strode along University Avenue in Quezon City with the advice to monitor about 11,000 freshmen of the UP System.
“We, parents, will not stop until the recruitment of our children also stop. We want our children to finish their studies but communist fronts inside UP lure them to join rallies, activism, immersion, take up arms, and fight the government. As a government-sponsored university, UP must be vigilant and not tolerate the presence of legal fronts that recruit students,” LPP president Remy Rosadio told reporters in Filipino.
Rosadio said communist terrorist groups have deceptive schemes to disguise their agenda against the government and the Filipino people.
This recruitment process starts off as a “barkadahan” (peer group) system where small discussion groups take up national issues, Rosadio said.
He said talks will later on develop into a “brainwashing activity” with the students adopting armed struggle as the only legitimate solution to the country’s problems.
From there, she said students will be taken to immersion programs in the countryside, paving the way for their actual recruitment into the New People’s Army (NPA).
“We call on the UP administration to crack down on these front organizations. Since time immemorial, it has identified who are they and the style and schemes. The leaders and infiltration teams and individuals are not new to them,” Rosadio continued.
The rallyists carried with them photos of UP graduates who were identified as NPA rebels.
The Communist Party of the Philippines-NPA is listed as a terrorist organization by the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the Philippines.
