A 20-story residential tower will rise in Quiapo District as Manila builds on its dream of a capital city free of informal settlers.
On Monday, the San Sebastian Residences, located on Plaza del Carmen Street, broke ground. It will benefit 243 families.
It is the city’s sixth housing project after Tondominium 1 and 2, Binondominium, Basecommunity, San Lazaro Residences, and Pedro Gil Residences.
The townhouse-style Basecommunity was turned over to 229 beneficiaries in July and the construction of Phase 2 is already being discussed.
The high-rise Tondominium expects completion by the end of the year.
Officials previously stated the city government wants even the poorest sector to experience dignity through safe, decent, and affordable homes.
Each unit is 40 square meters big, has two bedrooms, toilet and bath, kitchen, and a receiving area.
Among the amenities are 58 parking slots, health center, police substation, four elevators for residential units, swimming pool, function room, fitness center, roof garden, activity areas, and roof deck play area.
“Walang magiging iskwater sa Maynila pagdating ng panahon. May awa ang Diyos. Nagawa ng ibang bansa, nagawa nila, kaya rin nating magawa dito sa Lungsod ng Maynila (Time will come that there will be no more informal settlers in Manila. God will provide. Other countries did it. We can also do it in the city of Manila),” Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso said during the ceremony.
