The Philippine National Police (PNP) and China’s Ministry of Public Security (MPS) on Thursday held a virtual meeting to strengthen cooperation on mutual law enforcement and transnational security concerns between the two countries.
In a statement Thursday night, PNP chief, Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said he and other ranking police officials met with their Chinese counterparts led by MPS Vice Minister Wang Xiaohong.
Discussed during their high-level meetings were “mutual law enforcement and security concerns involving the crackdown on illegal POGO (Philippine offshore gaming operations) activities, telecom fraud, drug-related crime, and kidnapping.”
Also tackled were updates on the proposed establishment of China desks in the PNP offices that will address concerns on the protection of overseas Chinese nationals and organizations.
Both the PNP and MPS agreed to work together to ensure the security of the 24th Winter Olympics in Beijing in February next year.
“The PNP and MPS bilateral conference opened doors for training cooperation and mutual assistance, including counter-terrorism, anti-drug operation, personal online training, and policing material aids,” Eleazar said.
The 90-minute conference ended on a high note with both delegations seeking further inter-agency cooperation under the framework of the Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime among the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol), Asean and China (10+1); and Ministerial Meeting among China, Japan, Korea.
The PNP and MPS both maintain liaison offices in Beijing and Manila through designated official police attaches.
