Opposition coalition aspirants file COCs for Dumaguete posts

The opposition slate filed their certificates of candidacy (COC) for mayor, vice mayor, and members of the city council here on Tuesday at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) office in this Negros Oriental capital.

The coalition group members who filed their COCs are incumbent provincial Board Member Estanislao Veloso Alviola (PROMDI) for mayor; William Enriguez Ablong, (PROMDI) vice mayor; and Agustin Miguel Araneta Perdices (PROMDI); incumbent Board Member Jose Anfone Baldado (PROMDI); Pascual Eroy Vismanos, Jr. (PROMDI); Bernice Anne Aseñas Elmaco (Lakas-CMD); Danilo Teves Leon (PROMDI); Jose Victor Vicente Imbo (PROMDI); Rosel Margarette Quiambao Erames (PROMDI); Maria Marife Ligon Cordova (Liberal Party); and lawyer Joe Kenneth Kwan Arbas (LP), all for the Sangguniang Panglungsod (SP) seats.

Antonio Johnson Remollo (Independent), a former councilor seeking a comeback, completes the opposition ticket but filed his COC on October 1 shortly before leaving for the United States.

The opposition slate includes incumbent councilors Arbas, Perdices, Elmaco, and Erames for re-election, while those returning to the political arena are former vice mayor Ablong, and Leon and Imbo, former SP members.

The newcomers aiming for a slot in the city council are Vismanos, a lawyer, and Cordova, a barangay councilor of Piapi and the widow of the late city vice mayor Alan Gel Cordova, who died early this year of cardiac arrest shortly after having recovered from coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
