Northern Samar hospital reopens doors to outpatients

The Northern Samar Provincial Hospital in Catarman, Northern Samar has reopened its outpatient department (OPD) after a two-week closure due to rising coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases.

The hospital announced on Wednesday the reopening of its OPD, more than two weeks after limiting the number of admissions to emergency cases since Sept. 12.

“The people of Northern Samar may once again visit the hospital for check-ups and consultations on any pain, sickness, or symptoms they have. Nevertheless, we enjoin everyone to observe the minimum health protocols when they go to the hospital,” said chief of hospital Ninfa Kam, in a statement.

The hospital’s management decided to suspend accepting out-patients after the hospital’s Covid-19 ward has admitted 44 patients on the third week of August, higher than its 30-bed capacity.

As of Sept. 28, the number of Covid-19 admitted patients went down to 11 from 17 admissions on Sept. 27.

From March 2020 to Sept. 29, 2021, Northern Samar has already recorded 3,739 Covid-19 cases, including 3,407 recoveries, and 90 deaths.

There are only 240 remaining active cases recorded in 20 out of 24 towns in the province.
