The Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) has recorded 186,111 passengers on Bonifacio Day on November 30, the highest number in a single day since the pandemic started in March last year.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, the MRT-3 attributed the record single-day passengers this year to the improved capacity since the pandemic forced the rail service to suspend operations until its resumption in June 2020.
“Ito ay resulta ng mas pinataas na passenger capacity, mas mabilis na pagbiyahe ng mga tren at pagkakaroon ng mataas na bilang ng mga running at operational na train sets sa linya (This is the result of the increased passenger capacity, faster train trips, and a high number of running and operational trains in the mainline),” the MRT-3 said in a statement.
To date, it said the maximum capacity of trains has increased to 70 percent or 276 passengers per train car compared to 30 percent or 124 passengers per train car back in February.
The operational speed of MRT-3 trains has remained at around 60 kilometers per hour (kph) since December 2020—an increase from 50 kph after the successful maintenance and upgrade of the train service.
On average, it said about 17 to 21 trains are currently running along the MRT-3’s mainline.
Amidst the continued relaxation of health restrictions, it reminded passengers that several public health and safety protocols remain mandatory.
These include the wearing of face masks and the ban on eating, drinking, and talking in public transportation.
