Marcos Highway portion in Benguet now open to traffic

A national road in Benguet is now open to traffic after being cleared of debris caused by monsoon rains, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said on Friday.

In an advisory, the agency said the portion of Marcos Highway in Barangay Taloy Sur in Tuba town is now passable to vehicles as of 6 a.m., after being closed due to rock and soil collapse brought by heavy rains on Thursday.

DPWH Secretary Mark Villar, meanwhile, said only one national road in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) remains impassable.

He said a Quick Response Team (QRT) has been dispatched to conduct clearing operations at the Abra – Kalinga Road, Barangay Gacab in Malibcong, Abra.

Motorists are advised to take the Abra – Ilocos Sur Road – McArthur Highway – Maharlika Highway as an alternate route.

Clearing operations were earlier hampered due to adverse weather conditions and unstable slope conditions.

Meanwhile, it added that all other national roads and bridges in other regions are now passable to all types of vehicles.
