Typhoon Kiko’s damage to agriculture, livestock, and infrastructure has reached PHP54.167 million in Cagayan, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) said in its post-typhoon assessment and validation report on Tuesday.
Validators said the agriculture sector incurred a setback of at least PHP33.087 million; infrastructure — PHP20.93-million; and livestock — PHP150,000.
Agriculture reports showed a total of PHP32.27-million damage to some 515 hectares of palay farms, affecting 818 farmers.
There were also 112 hectares of damaged corn farms worth some PHP619,980, with 93 farmers affected.
Likewise, 11 fishers lost PHP125,896 due to damaged equipment and fish stock losses.
“We hope to recover soonest from the typhoon as Cagayanos are always resilient,” Governor Manuel Mamba told the Philippine News Agency.
Meanwhile, 58 people bound for Fuga and Calayan islands — 23 in Claveria and 35 at Aparri port, are still stranded as sea travels have remained suspended.
In Batanes, Governor Marilou Cayco has pleaded for donations of home-building materials for villagers whose houses were destroyed by “Kiko”.
Houses, schools and government buildings such as the provincial capitol building were among those with swept roofs, she said, noting that Basco and Uyugan towns have been the most devastated areas.
During a virtual news briefing on Monday, Cayco also asked for replenishment of rice stocks.
In response, the Office of Civil Defense in Cagayan Valley is expected to send 5,000 bags of rice for Batanes villagers, OCD regional director Harold Cabreros said.
Cayco also said she would request the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to allow wood from fallen trees to be used for building repairs.
Power supply has remained out while communication signal is weak in the island-province.
Nine people were reported injured during the typhoon’s onslaught but there were no fatalities. The data of damages has yet to be finalized, Cayco said.
