The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) saw a decline in the number of focus crime incidents since November 2020.

Citing the latest data as of Wednesday, NCRPO chief, Maj. Gen. Vicente Danao Jr. said 109,079 focus crimes were recorded from Nov. 10, 2020 to Jan. 23, 2022 covering 440 days, an almost 17-percent drop from 131,230 incidents recorded in 441 days from Sept. 5, 2019 to Nov. 9, 2020.

Classified as focus crimes are murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, theft, robbery, vehicle theft, and motorcycle theft.

Physical injury cases logged the biggest decline at 42 percent from 1,934 to 934 incidents; motorcycle theft, 25 percent from 836 to 625; murder, 24 percent from 802 to 611 incidents; robbery, 22 percent from 2,053 to 1,603 incidents; homicide, 21 percent from 221 to 175 incidents; theft, 16 percent from 4,494 to 3,756 incidents; vehicle theft, 16 percent from 172 to 144 incidents; and rape, 6 percent from 1,315 to 1,241 incidents.

Meanwhile, special complex crimes also decreased by 34 percent from 66 to 43.

Special complex crimes are composed of two or more crimes but are specifically defined, treated, and punished under the Revised Penal Code as a single indivisible offense.

“We do not only give credit to our men for their unwavering efforts but we also appreciate the trust and confidence of the public through their support and cooperation on the programs of the PNP (Philippine National Police), particularly in the fight against all forms of criminality. We assure our commitment to serving and protecting our community 24/7,” he added.

Meanwhile, Danao also reported that police officers conducted 681 operations from January 1 to 23, wherein 1,247 persons were arrested, and 12,662.89 grams of shabu and 3,534.19 grams of marijuana, with a total estimated street value of PHP86.5 million, were confiscated.

Over the same period, 439 anti-illegal gambling operations resulted in the arrest of 1,353 suspects and the confiscation of PHP466,055 worth of bets.

Meanwhile, the NCRPO also recorded 191 most wanted persons and 319 other wanted persons nabbed.

In terms of accomplishments on loose firearms, 82 operations were conducted, 81 persons arrested, and 90 firearms recovered or confiscated.

“I am impressed with the current record that reflects our relentless efforts to boost the PNP’s campaign against all forms of criminality and illegal drugs. Indeed, this data shows our commitment to deliver serbisyong TAMA: TApat, may tapang at MAlasakit para sa mamamayan,” Danao said.

He also reiterated his call for compliance with the “no vaccination, no ride” policy of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) in public transport.

From January 17 to 23, the NCRPO accosted 1,030 unvaccinated drivers of private vehicles, public utility jeepneys, public utility buses, tricycles, and motorcycle taxis.

As of January 23, a total of 3,170 unvaccinated passengers were apprehended.

The DOTr’s “no vax no ride” policy aims to preserve safe travel in line with the state’s power to regulate the movement of unvaccinated persons to uphold the interest of public health and public safety.

“We understand the sentiment of our community. Yet, on our part as law enforcers, we are duty-bound to implement the law. We ask for the cooperation and understanding of our people to have confidence in our government that this is for the common good of all,” Danao said.
