Far-flung villages may avail of NFA mobile procurement

Farmers in far-flung barangays of Antique, who are currently harvesting their palay, may avail of the National Food Authority (NFA) mobile procurement.

NFA-Antique Manager Glenda Paz said in a virtual press conference on Thursday that farmers who have difficulty in transporting their clean and dry palay in the two warehouses of the province may coordinate for mobile procurement.

“Farmers and their farmers’ associations that would like to sell their palay to NFA could designate a certain meeting point in their barangay so that the NFA mobile procurement teams could go there,” she said.

Paz said since the NFA mobile procurement teams would still come from Iloilo, then it would be helpful if farmers could dispose of about 300 to 500 bags of palay in one transaction.

“We have two mobile procurement teams formed for Antique,” she added.

Farmers should inform the NFA mobile procurement teams ahead of time so that they could prepare the funds to pay them for their palay harvest.

“The NFA buying price is right now PHP19 per kilogram,” she said.

Paz said their buying price is higher compared with the PHP10 to PHP11 per kilogram buying price of local traders.

Meanwhile, Paz said that for their palay inventory or buffer stock as of October 20 in the province of Antique they have 17,790 bags in their two warehouses in San Jose de Buenavista and Culasi.

NFA-Antique also has a rice inventory of 11,989 bags in the warehouses.

“Considering the 5,440 bags daily consumption of the people in Antique, the buffer stock will last for four days,” she said.
