Severe Tropical Storm Fabian and the weather disturbance outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) with international name Cempaka, are both enhancing the southwest monsoon, a weather forecaster said Monday afternoon.
Monsoon rains will continue to be experienced over the Ilocos Region, Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan.
“Be alert and take necessary precautions against flooding in those areas,” said Chris Perez of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
No gale warning is currently in effect, but the enhanced southwest monsoon will cause moderate to rough seas over the western seaboard of Palawan including the Kalayaan Islands.
PAGASA advised mariners of small seacrafts to take precautionary measures when venturing out to the sea. Likewise, inexperienced mariners should avoid navigating in these sea conditions.
Meanwhile, Perez said “Fabian” has been almost stationary for the past six hours.
“Currently, it has no direct effect on any part of the country, and no tropical cyclone wind signal was hoisted,” he said.
Since “Fabian” has been almost stationary, Perez said PAGASA now forecasts the weather disturbance to exit PAR by Thursday.
“Fabian” was last tracked 1,075 kilometers east northeast of extreme northern Luzon. It packs maximum sustained winds of 95 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 115 kph.
On Monday night, scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will continue to prevail over Metro Manila, Cordillera Administrative Region, Calabarzon, Western Visayas, Batanes, Cagayan, Pampanga, Tarlac, and Bulacan.
Rain showers and thunderstorms are also expected over the rest of the country due to the southwest monsoon.
Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas will be experienced across the archipelago, except for the western part of Luzon where moderate to strong seas and moderate to rough seas will prevail.
