DTI tells NegOcc establishments to aim for ‘Safety Seal’

BACOLOD CITY – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Negros Occidental encouraged business establishments to aim for the Safety Seal being awarded by the agency.

Romel Amihan, head of the DTI – Negros Occidental Consumer Protection Unit, said in a statement on Friday that while the application is voluntary, having the certification shows the customers and the community that an establishment prioritizes public health and safety, and follows all related protocols against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

“It signals to the community that the place is safe to visit,” Amihan said.

In this city, among those awarded the Safety Seal were the SM Supermarket at SM City Bacolod and the Savemore Bacolod – East Branch.

Both establishments were on the list of 20 big companies that received certification from the DTI 6 (Western Visayas), with more establishments lined up for inspection.

A voluntary certification scheme, the Safety Seal certification affirms that an establishment is compliant with the minimum public health standards set by the government and uses or integrates its contact tracing with StaySafe.ph.

It is issued to supermarkets, groceries, convenience stores, membership shopping clubs, construction supply/hardware stores, logistics service providers, barbershops and salons, and service and repair shops.

As more business establishments apply for certification, it is the government’s aim for the Safety Seal program to help increase public confidence in businesses during the pandemic while also ensuring that minimum health protocols are strictly implemented.

These protocols include wearing of face mask and face shield, regular disinfection, and use of the required contact tracing system
