Comelec to tackle Cusi petition vs. Pacquiao, allies

An official of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Tuesday said the petition filed by the group of Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) president and Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi against the party’s faction led by Senator Manny Pacquiao will be tackled by the poll body’s en banc.

“Matter will be referred to the en banc. No word yet on how long it will take. We might have a better idea tomorrow,” Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said in a message to reporters.

On Tuesday, Cusi’s group asked the Comelec to declare Pacquiao and his allies as “illegitimate officers” of the political party.

Both groups claim they are the legitimate PDP-Laban.

Earlier, both have submitted their Sworn Information Update Statement (SIUS) with the Comelec for the May 2022 polls, which will also be decided by the commission.

In July, Cusi’s group ousted Pacquiao as PDP-Laban president and replaced him with the Energy chief.
