Caraga logs over 800 new Covid-19 cases, 108 recoveries

The Caraga Region added 810 new cases to its coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) tally over the weekend.

The Department of Health in Region 13 (DOH-13) on Sunday also reported 108 new recoveries that padded the overall count to 47,746 out of 52,914 since the pandemic began in March 2020.

“With the 810 new cases, Caraga Region now has a total of 3,251 active Covid-19 cases,” the DOH-13 report said.

Agusan del Sur recorded the highest number of new infections on Saturday with 164, followed by Surigao del Sur with 153, Agusan del Norte (89), Surigao del Norte (29), and Dinagat Islands (2).

Among cities, 203 new cases were reported here, 47 in Bislig, 41 in Surigao, 34 in Cabadbaran, 33 in Tandag, and 15 in Bayugan.

Except for Dinagat Islands, all provinces in the region and this city are under Alert Level 3 until January 31.

Covid-19 related deaths in the region is at 108 with one more fatality.

From 860 active cases on January 16, the number swelled to 1,182 the following day and steadily rose from there.

In Carmen, Surigao del Sur, Mayor Jane Plaza has suspended operations at the capitol until January 26 due to rising infections.

“Several government employees tested positive in the recently conducted mass RT-PCR (reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction) testing,” Plaza said in a statement on Sunday.

During the work stoppage, Plaza said all government employees, regardless of test results, are advised to undergo isolation.

All employees will be subjected to antigen swab tests before they are allowed to return to work on January 27.

Twenty-eight new cases were recorded in Carmen town on Saturday.
