Antique meets challenges head on with help of ‘silent heroes’

Social workers are the “silent heroes” here, dedicating their time and effort since the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic started, and now in the relief operations after Typhoon Odette slammed the province last week.

Governor Rhodora Cadiao said Antique has withstood all challenges because of their resilient social workers.

“I am not afraid because I have people behind who were doing their jobs well,” she said in her message during the provincial summit at Tuburan sang Kabuhi Bishop’s House here on Tuesday.

She praised the social workers who carried out their responsibilities, especially in availing of Covid-19 vaccines and spreading the importance of getting jabbed.

All 80 social and para-social workers of the Provincial and Municipal Social Welfare and Development and Child Development Office gave a resounding “yes” when asked by the governor if they were all inoculated.

The province, which has a population of about 612,000, only has 70 active Covid-19 cases as of Tuesday.

Of the total 6,104 infections, 5,788 have already recovered.

The province was under Signal No. 3 on Friday and may declare a state of calamity pending the submission of reports from Anini-y and Tobias Fornier towns.

“The towns of Anini-y and Tobias Fornier were hit real hard by Typhoon Odette but then, because of your resiliency, our province is still being considered as the one with most potential in Western Visayas,” she said.

On Wednesday a fast-food chain will open here while other big establishments are expected to open their branches soon.

She said various establishment will not be opening in the province if they do not see the business potential and synergy of the provincial leaders.
