300 Sorsogon residents employed thru DOLE program

At least 300 individuals in Sorsogon province have attended an orientation for their emergency employment through the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

Johana Vi Gasga, DOLE-Bicol spokesperson, in an interview on Monday said the beneficiaries were briefed on Occupational Safety and Health and wages, signed documentary requirements, and given protective equipment during the orientation last week. They will start their emergency employment upon the receipt of notice-to-proceed (NTP) anytime soon, she added.

“The beneficiaries will be employed for 10 days and expected to receive an amount of PHP3,100 each based on the minimum wage rate set by the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Boards (RTWPB)-Bicol,” Gasga said.

She said the program aims to provide emergency employment through beautification and tree planting in selected barangays identified by the accredited co-partners to help the marginalized sector gain short-term sources of income while helping their communities.

“TUPAD projects are our contribution in the government’s Recovery Plan of providing emergency employment assistance to the informal workers who have lost their employment or livelihood due to the global health crisis,” Ma. Zenaida A. Angara-Campita, DOLE-Bicol regional director, said in a statement on Monday.

Municipal mayors of the local government units (LGUs) of Gubat, Pilar, Magallanes, and Juban, all in Sorsogon, expressed their gratitude to DOLE for its continued support to their respective constituents during these challenging times.

Meanwhile, the National Labor Relations Commission (NLRC) sub-regional arbitration branch in the province of Camarines Norte said it is now ready to accept clients.

Labor Arbitration Associate, Ralph Martin M. Villaflor, announced on Monday that their services are now readily available and can be accessed by clients every Thursday and Friday at the DOLE provincial office.

Such services include the conduct of mandatory conferences, receiving of complaints/referrals for compulsory arbitration, administering of oaths, updating on pending cases filed before the NLRC, and receiving of pleadings filed by parties.

Angara-Campita gave her full support to the latest development in the delivery of services of NLRC to its clientele.

“In this partnership with NLRC, we can provide better access to expeditious and inexpensive compulsory arbitration among our workers and employers in the province,” she said.
