1 of 6 Lanao del Sur town jailbreakers caught

One of the six inmates who escaped a police detention facility in Malabang, Lanao del Sur has been recaptured, officials said Thursday.

Malabang Mayor Tomas Macapodi said one of the escapees, identified as Ahmad Deedat Marohombsar, was apprehended during police manhunt operation hours after he and five others bolted the facility by cutting the window metal grills of their cell using a hacksaw blade on July 21.

Major Timothy Jim Romanillos, Malabang town police chief, identified the five others still at large as Monaif Hadji Haron Danday, Norodin Guiambangan, Asmarie Maruhom, Aljabbar Ocsio Maruhom, and Adnan Ocsio Maruhom, all facing heinous crimes.

“Our manhunt continues,” Romanillos said in a radio interview.

He said the inmates escaped while still unidentified gunmen fired at the police station.

“We managed to repulse the attack but immediately launched a pursuit operation against those who escaped after learning of the diversionary tactic carried out by the perpetrators,” Romanillos said. An investigation is also ongoing as to the identity of the gunmen.

He urged the families, especially parents of the remaining escapees, to help convince them to surrender peacefully.

He said policemen, together with troopers from the 5th Marine Battalion Landing Team, are currently tracking down the whereabouts of the five escapees.

Macapodi said he is contemplating offering cash reward to help hasten the recapture of the fugitives.
