Suspect in P30-M Pasig robbery surrenders: NCRPO

One of the two suspects in a PHP30-million robbery in Pasig over the weekend has voluntarily surrendered to the vice mayor of Bulusan, Sorsogon, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said on Thursday.

NCRPO Chief, Maj. Gen. Vicente Danao Jr., said Rowel Galan surrendered on Tuesday and was turned over to the Pasig City Police the next day.

Galan and dismissed police officer Ferdinand Fallaria, who remains at large, were among the suspects who robbed a Japanese national and his Filipina partner of at least PHP30 million in cash and gadgets in Pasig City on Saturday.

Other suspects were Taguig police officers S/Sgt. Jayson Bartolome, Cpls. Merick Desoloc and Christian Jerome Reyes, and Pat. Kirk Joshua Almojera, along with civilian AJ Mary Agnas who are all in police custody.

Senior Assistant City Prosecutor Richard Parras of the Pasig City Regional Trial Court found probable cause to warrant the filing of criminal information against the suspect for the special complex crime of robbery with homicide. No bail was recommended.

Jhon Carlo Atienza, one of the alleged perpetrators, was found dead along Kalayaan Ave., cor. Tolentino Street, Barangay Pinagkaisahan, Makati City.

Danao assured that the NCRPO would keep the public posted as to the status of the case, which would also serve as a warning to other police officers.

Danao also called for the cooperation of the public for the arrest of the remaining suspect.

“We will continue to cleanse our ranks. We will never tolerate these policemen and guarantee that they will be charged accordingly and immediately so that other Metro cops will have second thoughts in doing the same,” he said.
