Suspect in Bukidnon nurse’s slay nabbed

Police officers have arrested one of two suspects in the killing of a 35-year-old nurse in Valencia City, Bukidnon.

Lt. Col. Cipriano Bazar, Valencia City police chief, said operatives collared Jason Jamero, 20, at a construction site in Purok 9, Barangay Candelaria in San Fernando, Bukidnon early Friday.

Jamero, a native of Valencia City, works as a laborer at the construction site.

The other suspect remains at large, according to the police.

Investigators recovered from Jamero the cellular phone of the victim, Soriano Moreno, a nurse at the Bukidnon Provincial Hospital in Kalilangan town.

Moreno was found dead on the morning of January 4 inside a lodging house in Valencia City with stab wounds in different parts of his body.

“(On) the morning of January 5, a concerned citizen turned over to the police in San Fernando the PRC (Professional Regulation Commission) ID of the victim found at the river banks. On January 7, the victim’s motorcycle was found abandoned in Barangay Bangcud, Malaybalay City,” Bazar said.

He said a witness saw Jamero leave the motorcycle in the area.

The knife used by the suspect in killing the victim was found hidden at his residence, according to the police.

Bazar said Jamero and Moreno were friends.

He said the suspect “got angry” at the victim but he did not disclose the reason.

Jamero is under the custody of the police and is facing murder charges.

Moreno was buried in his hometown in Bayog, Zamboanga del Sur at 8 a.m. on Friday. (PNA)
