Over 3,000 workers from the education sector affected by the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic have received cash aid worth PHP5,000 under the Covid-19 Adjustment Measures Program (CAMP) of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
DOLE-National Capital Regional (NCR) Regional Director Sarah Mirasol said a total of 3,374 teachers and non-teaching personnel were the initial beneficiaries of the cash aid from the government.
“These are the teaching and non-teaching personnel from 208 educational institutions. The total amount is PHP16.87 million,” she said in a virtual forum on Wednesday.
Under the Bayanihan 2 or Bayanihan to Recover as One, it has allocated PHP300 million for the education sector with 600,000 target beneficiaries.
“We are targeting around 60,000 in the education sector, all affected workers,” Mirasol said, adding that they started accepting applicants last Nov. 3.
Mirasol said the beneficiaries have expressed gratitude to the government for providing them with the cash aid.
“They felt special because they were given attention and the government is really focused on providing for them,” she added.
After assisting the education sector, they would focus next on giving financial aid to the tourism sector.
