The province of Negros Oriental has three new confirmed cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), including a five-year-old child.
Assistant provincial health officer Dr. Liland Estacion, health committee chair of the province’s Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID), in a press briefing late Thursday afternoon, said the new cases are a 58-year-old female front-liner and a 23-year-old male, both from Bayawan City, and the five-year-old girl from nearby Sta. Catalina town.
The two new patients in Bayawan City are related, Estacion said.
She added that the initial investigation showed the child is the granddaughter of another Covid-19 patient codenamed NegOr CoV 219, who is admitted to the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital here.
The three new cases were swabbed and the specimens were sent to the Bacolod Queen of Mercy Hospital in Bacolod City, Negros Oriental, Estacion said.
Meanwhile, the province sent Tuesday 879 swab samples for testing in Cebu City, Estacion said.
The total pending results from Cebu has now reached 948, she added.
As of Thursday, the total number of Covid-19 positive cases in Negros Oriental is 226, with 34 active, 186 recoveries, and six deaths.
