The Department of Agriculture (DA) has distributed 1,350 bags of rice seeds worth PHP4.8 million to farmers in Zamboanga del Norte.
DA regional executive director Ran Donn Cedeño said Thursday the beneficiaries of the rice distribution program are the farmers of Barangay Isis in Polanco, a third-class municipality in the province.
Cedeño said the distributed rice seeds consisted of 550 bags of inbred variety and 800 bags of hybrid seeds worth PHP4,836,000 which were procured under the DA’s regional rice program.
Cedeño said the rice distribution on Wednesday was done together with Rep. Romeo Jalosjos Jr. of the first district of Zamboanga del Norte.
He also expressed his admiration for the farmers and committed to continuously assist them in farm production needs.
“Farmers are our heroes in this time of the pandemic. You serve as everyone’s front-liners because you provide us the food that we need, this is why DA will never hesitate to give you the support because you truly deserve it,” he said.
“It is very important to give the farmers the farm inputs they need so we feel so grateful for the government; from President Rodrigo Duterte, Agriculture Secretary William Dar and to our Regional Director Cedeño, for always doing their best to support the farmers. We hope you maximize the inputs well so you can provide for your family’s consumption as well as building enterprise for your additional income,” Jalosjos was quoted as telling the farmers.
Romer Ladera, Polanco Municipal Council’s Committee on Agriculture chairperson, said he admires the leadership of DA in the region for the willingness and enthusiasm to support farmers and provide immediate farm inputs.
“We are blessed that our Regional Director is very hands-on and is always present even to small activities like this. His presence inspires us to work harder in everything that we do,” Ladera said.
Polanco Mayor Evan Hope Olvis, Vice Mayor Alfredo Bait-it, and Municipal Agriculturist Edgar Agayan witnessed the distribution of the rice seeds to farmers in the municipality.
